About the Beach


Located along the legendary Ocean Drive in Newport, Rhode Island, Gooseberry Beach is a private beach club open to the public. We'd love to have you come and enjoy the most beautiful beach in Newport , with its white sand and clear calm ocean waters. Gooseberry is a great family beach, perfect for swimming, sun bathing, snorkeling or building sand castles. Bring your beach gear or simply pack a suit and towel. We have chair rentals, changing rooms, and shower facilities available for our guests.

Pack a picnic lunch for a day at the beach or leave it all behind and enjoy our Gooseberry Cafe which offers great beach food plus daily gourmet specials.

The function hall at Gooseberry Beach is only rented to members of the beach. If you are interested in renting this facility and know of a member who would sponsor you, please have that member contact the beach at info@gooseberrybeach.com .

The Beach is open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (weather permitting.)

Parking Rates: Monday thru Friday: $15 per day, Weekends and Holidays: $20 per day.

We also have seasonal parking passes available for those beach lovers who just can't get enough of Gooseberry.
The 2008 seasonal parking pass fee is $200 for a non-member for the season from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
Seasonal parking passes are available for members and non-members and can be purchased at the beach any day between Memorial Day and Labor Day. (Cash or checks only please).
